Brief Personality: Cocky, self-assured, flirtatious. Can be vicious and cruel, really doesn't want to talk about the Doctor. A bit brittle sometimes. Fond of the Master, willing to sacrifice his own well-being for the sake of humanity. | |
Brief History: When Rose brought Jack back, she brought him back permanently. He managed to get to his feet in time to hear the TARDIS starting to dematerialize. He was hurt and confused about why the Doctor abandoned him, and he tried to follow, only to be thrown to the end of the universe, where his Vortex Manipulator burned out.
He found a man named Professor Yana on Malcassario, where he landed, and he offered his assistance in getting the rocket off the ground. He flirted and he helped, and he saw the watch, and asked about it. Yana opened it, and the Master emerged. Jack was surprised, but he took it in a stride. He asked the Master if he had a TARDIS lying around somewhere, but with no luck there, he offered to use his Vortex Manipulator - if it hadn't burned out. The Master takes it to fix it, while Jack continues to work on the rocket with Chan'tho. The Master explains to Jack that he's a Fact, and that he can't die, that he'll continue to exist - and exist, and exist - and that he's wrong. He has no doubt that's why the Doctor left Jack behind, and he almost does the same, but in the end, they both use Jack's Vortex Manipulator, trying to track down where the Master's TARDIS landed. They find themselves in Victorian England with a (once again) burned out Vortex Manipulator, and a scrap of TARDIS coral, and the prospect of decades - possibly centuries - on the slow path while Earth catches up in the technology department. Jack stays with the Master, not entirely trusting him, and for most of a century, they make lives. He witnesses the Master regenerate in the 1940s, and he stayed with him while he builds a company dedicated to building various forms of transport - using alien tech whenever the Master can get his hands on it. They attract the attention of Torchwood, and in 1973, they join Torchwood as "consulting specialists". While the Master rose rapidly through the ranks, Jack was happy to explore the organization a little more in-depth from the inside. The Master made sure he was promoted to the head of his department (Technology and Resources) when the Time Lord secured his own position as the Assistant Director. Jack had just been in a meeting with the various departmental heads and the Master, and been promoted to take over the vacent position of Assistant Director. He stepped out of the board room, and into a street instead of the hallway he was expecting. He's rather glad he doesn't go unarmed, even in Torchwood Tower, as he doesn't know what happened, or where he is, except that it's not home. |
