Brief Personality: It's impossible to really nail Owen down, especially since the events of the past few months have left him feral and broken. A sarcastic, bad tempered arse with a vicious streak before the Master descended upon the Earth, Owen's personality has only been magnified and warped after having to suffer through watching each of his teammates be tortured and killed in front of him. Owen is jumpy and paranoid now, unwilling to trust anyone other than the Torchwood Three team. And since he's now the last one of the team alive (Jack DOES NOT count), there's no one that he trusts anymore. | |||
Brief History: Jack had disappeared. After all of that, Jack just up and vanished. Owen couldn't have been more pissed if Jack had flipped them off before skipping off on his merry little way. At least they would have known where he'd gone to then. Gwen insisted that they look for him, insisted that something had taken him, kidnapped him against his will.
That was, until they played back the CCTV footage of outside in the Plass. If anything, that pissed Owen off that much more. The Doctor was supposed to the enemy, and there was Jack, willing running into his arms. Or at least, into his bloody box. Ianto was heartbroken. Tosh was confused. Gwen was flabbergasted. And Owen was just angry. After all they had done for him, everything they had gone through together... It just wasn't fair that they be dumped for some time hopping, trouble making Time Lord. Things were awkward for a couple of weeks. They went about their work as well as they could, trying to act as though everything was normal. But Ianto trudged about the place like he had just after Lisa was killed. It took nothing more than a mug of split pens to make Gwen cry. And Tosh turned snappy and avoided talking to anyone. None of which helped Owen's mood to change from the overly sarcastic and venomous edge that it had taken on. They worked cases, followed leads, and even traveled when need be. When they were sent off to the Himalayas, nobody thought anything was amiss. That was, until they got back and ended up walking right into the clutches of a madman. They were taken from the Hub and tossed into a single cell not much larger than three of the ones that they kept the Weevils in smashed together would have been. Gwen and Tosh were optimistic at first. At least they were being kept together. At least they were being fed. At least they weren't been treated too badly. And then to torture started. Physical, mental. This man would do anything that he thought would get to them and just laugh while doing it. He'd taunt them about Jack as well, about how Jack was having so much fun, relaxing and indulging himself aboard...whatever that bloody ship of his was called. If Owen could have hated Jack anymore than he already did for leaving them behind, he loathed him right then. Tosh was the first one to be killed. It was quick. She had gotten sick of being told nothing and just being left to suffer day after day. She spoke up, and the Master ordered her shot. Right in front of them. And then he just left the body there. Owen had caught her when she fell, the bullet having gone right through her forehead. And it took Ianto almost four hours to convince Owen to let her go. The body was removed during the night some time while the remaining three of them were asleep. Gwen went next. Her death wasn't quite as sudden and quick as Tosh's, however. Instead, the Master tortured her, pushing her to the breaking point mentally before having his guards beat her, breaking every bone in her body, and then, once more, just leaving her there. As he watched the light leave her eyes, Owen felt another part of him die and another bit of his sanity slip away. Once more, she was removed during the night. With Gwen and Tosh gone, Ianto and Owen were left to cling to each other for support. Ianto was the rational one, keeping Owen from cracking while Owen gave Ianto an outlet for his anger, never flinching or pulling back when Ianto needed to rant and rave and rage against everything that had been done to them and needed someone to take it out on who wouldn't kill him for it. That was probably why when Ianto died, Owen lost the hope that he had to cling to. It wasn't a fast death, either. It wasn't even the kind of death that Gwen had had to suffer through. Instead, The Master decided to play a little game with them to see who had the stamina to last. He cut their food rations in half, giving them only enough food and water to keep one of them going properly. The first few months, they would split what they were given, leaving both of them alive but nearly unable to move. It wasn't until they had both almost faded entirely that Ianto took it upon himself to save Owen. He refused to eat. He either wasn't hungry or feeling queasy or some other excuse, always insisting that Owen eat it all. There was no reason to let it go to waste, after all. It only took a week before Ianto was too weak to eat even if he wanted to. And he died in Owen's arms not long after that. The last of the team left alive. The last member of Torchwood Three left to defeat this monster, Owen felt a renewed surge of anger and determination. He was going to fight. He wasn't going to let this madman beat him. And that was how he was left nearly a year later, a broken, beaten, and feral shell of a man. And that's how he's arrived. |
