| Brief History: Born in Surrey in the 1920s, spent her childhood with elderly parents - her family was reasonably well off, financially. Diane was their only child, and hated the restrictions of respectability.
She moved to London during the war, working first in an office and then for the MOD, where she learned to fly. Flying became her passion and her freedom, and the post-war austerity was the backdrop to her rise. In 1953, flying two passengers from Bristol to Dublin, she was forced to land by thick fog, and they landed in Cardiff 2007 to be greeted by Captain Jack Harkness and his team. After a brief attempt to adjust to 21st century life, and an intense affair with Owen, Diane attempted to escape the restrictions closing in on her life by taking the Sky Gipsy back up into the same conditions she'd landed in. |
