Brief Personality: Ianto is meticulous. He dresses neatly, wears his hair neatly, keeps his workplace neatly. Everything has a set place, numbers always work out perfectly, and as long as things are put away he'll always be able to find them. This has been a guiding principle for most of Ianto's life despite that fact that he realizes that working for Torchwood, it's totally false. Nothing works out perfectly, nothing has a set place, and he will never be able to find it. Working in a place that has aliens, a space time rift, and, frankly, Jack, means that things are forever on the move, things multiple or divide without rhyme or reason, and it takes far more time to locate objects than he wishes. But there's a difference between knowing something and accepting it, believing it.
That's a fundamental personality flaw in Ianto. He can be aware of something, even act to prevent it or encourage it as the case warrants, but can still, deep in his heart believe what he wants to believe and be honestly wounded when it turns out the way he knew it would rather then the way he'd hoped or wanted it to happen. But Ianto's very, very good at hiding his emotions for long stretches of time until he explodes in a fit of angst and pain and rage. Most of the time that calm however, makes him a very good buffer and calming influence on the more volatile members of Torchwood. He serves coffee and is quiet company. Not unlike a cat. That serves coffee. |

| Brief History: Ianto was born and raised in Wales, near the sea. He was very close to his maternal grandmother; she left him her house in the Whitecliff area of Cardiff when she died. His parents had it rented out and the income put into an account for him when he was 25. His parents divorced when he was twelve. He stayed with his mother until he went to Uni. From the university he was recruited into Torchwood, and specifically their archives. He has a talent for organization and computer systems.
While at Torchwood he met Lisa Halling. He fell head over heels for her. They were both working at Torchwood when it was invaded by the cybermen. Lisa was captured and was half way through the transformation process when the cybermen were sucked out of Ianto's reality. Ianto took care of her, hid her, got a job at Torchwood 3 and moved Lisa there, the better to take care of her. She was, for a year, the entire focus of his life. Then the cybermen programing took over and Lisa became a killer. The other members of Torchwood 3 killed her. Ianto turned the devotion that he had been using on Lisa to Torchwood itself. The false dedication became real. Less sugary, but more real. He also started spending some time at his house, having failed the renew the tenent's lease on his grandmother's home. There's a garden now. It makes him go home. Ianto's job title is general support. In practice that means he performs hub clean up, makes sure people eat and have coffee or tea, get where they need to on time, mans the reception desk at the tourist center, ties up loose ends, administrates the computer systems, and administrates the archives. Ianto has a birthmark- a large Cafˇ au lait spot on his upper right side between his ribs and his stomach. Ianto self identifies as heterosexual; not out of an denial that he's pulled men before, but because for the most part, he's emotionally attracted to women. Before Lisa there was Sarah and before Sarah there was Cecily. Lisa was the longest, three years, ages 22 to 25, counting the one she was in the basement of Torchwood Three. And Jack. Is Jack.
