Brief Personality: Toshiko is a grade-A geek and often behind the times as far as things like fashion trends go. She's not afraid to go out to clubs by herself although she does that mostly when she's depressed. She can occasionally be caustic, knows how to program (in several languages), is very meticulous and often communicates better with machines than she does with people.
Tosh loves technology, both earthly and alien. She likes her teammates (most of the time, and Owen more than the others), her job and her family (although she wishes she could see them more). She dislikes her teammates and her job some of the time but she figures that's to be expected when you spend most of your waking hours with the same group of people. She dislikes being alone, not being able to figure out an alien language or piece of equipment, and doubting herself and her decisions (she does both more frequently than she'd like to admit). |

| Brief History: Toshiko is the technical expert and resident computer genius for the Cardiff branch of Torchwood.
Some of her genius may be inherited as both of her parents were in the Royal Air Force and her grandfather worked at a World War II code-breaking facility. In fact, she joined a government scientific think-tank after graduating from university, and was working there when she was recruited by the Torchwood Institute. Her genius isn't limited to just technology. When she and Ianto were being held captive by cannibals, she quickly assessed the framework of a door in the room where they were being held and was able to identify its structural weaknesses and whether or not it was reinforced. She has also kept up with her medical background and sometimes backs up Owen in that regard. Toshiko has good working relationships with the Torchwood Three team and in particular with Jack Harkness (although she is not afraid of expressing her opinions to him). When they were stuck in the 1940s together, she confronted him -- partially out of fear and partially out of a need to know -- and he confided some of his secrets to her. Update: When Jack disappeared (off on his adventure with the Doctor and Martha), the team had to learn how to be a team without his constant presence. They did all right for themselves. Toshiko, although still reserved, has been more confident and a little more outspoken; more willing to trade jibes with the others. Her relationship with Owen is growing into a great friendship. Most recently, she suffered the loss of her a different romantic interest -- Tommy -- a soldier from 1918 that Torchwood froze and revived every year until he was "needed."
