Current News

The Thread List is currently under construction. The format is slightly altered, and where the threads are up to is at the top of the list itself.

Character pages have been given a new format, and are for the most part updated. There's a couple new characters and a couple updated characters that aren't dealt with yet, they should be up within a few days. There are some more improvements in mind for those pages, but they won't be done until the threads are updated through March, at least. - 9 June 2008

The Game

Whoville is a multi-verse, Doctor Who, RPG gaming environment. There are no applications, and there is no commitment requirement.

All you need to do to play is create a character journal, put the character profile in the first entry of your journal, join the communities (Whoville and Out of Character Who) and play.

The Universe

Doctor Who is a Universe that already contains Alternate-Universes (Pete's world). Whoville is a place where all of those universes intersect. Characters can stumble in, or come for a visit deliberately. They can fall back out, or leave intentionally, too.

The setting itself is a tiny town that seems to be on earth. There is a bar/hotel that is the center of activity/characters crossing over. I'm not going to describe it more than that, so others have room to build and create as suits their purposes. Why yes, that is an awful lot of trust. Please don't abuse it, and do note the 'seems to be on earth' and apply appropriate laws of physics and logic.

Rules and Game Mechanics

  1. Read The Spoiler Policy! It's not complicated, but it's not optional, either.
  2. All game play/in character interaction and posts should take place in the community. I expect characters to be rotating in and out, and that makes keeping a friendslist almost impossible. Face-to-face interaction, notes, telephone calls, smoke signals - whatever way you can think of for characters to communicate with each other- should all happen in Whoville.
  3. Out of Character stuff belongs in Out of Character Who. This is my opportunity to say communication is good, and people are friendly. If you have questions (about anything at all, from game mechanics, to characters or scenes), want to arrange a scene, babble and squee or tell someone you're going to bed and will get back to replying when you're done, this is the place to do it. You do not need to be a player to join this community.
  4. Default game play is third person, past tense. If you want to post differently that's fine, but do either ask first, or reply in the same style that the thread has been started in.
  5. Treat one another with respect. Enough said. Want to see me get nasty? Get nasty with each other, sit back and watch.
  6. Respect the IC/OOC line. My character may hate yours. That does not mean I hate you. If someone pisses you off, don't take it out on their character.
  7. Don't god-mod. If you're new to gaming this means, essentially, that you don't play anyone else's character. Don't assume they said, did, or even thought or felt something.
  8. Posts can be locked, to a character, player or group of characters, with a notation in the subject line. Also, be aware that unless a post is made specifically for the purpose of group interaction, with a posting order established out of character, it is usually best to interact with one person at a time. This isn't a rule, just advice about ways to save a whole lot of chaos and confusion
  9. I'm not going to demand anyone post or take open posts, but I would really encourage it. Playing around makes for a more dynamic, social group, and sometimes you can get some really awesome surprises when characters who might not be 'obvious' are thrown together.
  10. Multiple versions of the same character are *not* a problem. I expect bunches of them. The more the merrier.
  11. OCs and cross-over characters are allowed, but do take time to make sure they fit within the universe. Try to keep the cross-overs from fantasy/sci-fi canon. A character from Highlander or Dark Angel is going to make a lot more sense than one from Law and Order, or Naturo.
