Rowan had had a pint, had stored his folder, and was looking for chips. He wandered down the street, peering in shop windows and not seeing anything that looked like chips. He hailed someone coming the opposite way down the sidewalk, asking, "Have you seen a chip shop?"

He was craving comfort food.
He stopped and blinked, his face perfectly reflecting his absolute confusion. "A what shop?"
"Chips?" he asked hopefully, before shaking his head at the accent, "You're not English. Um. Fries?"
"Fried what?" He was trying.
"...Potatoes?" he sighed, "Hi, I'm Rowan, you're not from Earth, are you?"
He shook his head. "No, but I bet I can find you fried potatoes." He grinned, warm and bright.
"You will be my hero," he grinned back at him.
He waggled his eyebrows a little and headed off down the sidewalk. "I'm Brant. What's your name, where are you from, how did you get here, how long have you been here?" He rattled the questions off. He was getting used to it.
"I'm Rowen, I'm from London, walked through a door, a day. You?"
"Brant, The Boeshan Pennsiula, and I walked through a door, yeah."
"Where's the Boeshan Pennisula?"
"The-" He stopped. "Far away."
"How far?"
"I don't know where we are, so it's hard to guess, but if you're from Earth - really, really far." He was getting a headache.
Rowan offered Brant his hand, "I'm from earth."
He took the hand and shook, and kept smiling. "And you like fries."
"It's comfort food," he nodded, "You have any comfort food?"
"Not really, but I get it. Come on, let's check the dinning room first. There's a great kitchen in the hotel. I bet if we can't find what we want, we can make it. Why do you need comforted?"
"It's been a weird couple of days," he smiled, squeezing Brant's hand.
He returned the squeeze and kept his grip on Rowan's hand. "Because you ended up here?"
"And met someone who thought I should be a girl."
"Why's that weird? You'd make a good girl."
"No, like. Alternate reality I was a- hey!"
"Alternate reality you - What?"
"I'm all man."
"Yeah, but you're cute and could pull off girl."
"You're much prettier than me."
"I'd make a decent girl, too." He wasn't bugged by that.
"You're not though, right?"
He shook his head. "Nope, definitely a guy."
"Good to know," Rowan said thoughtfully, peering into shops.
He slipped his hand around so he could weave his fingers through Rowan's. "Is not."
"Why isn't it?" Rowan squeezed lightly
"Because it doesn't matter that much, does it?"
"Gender seperation is a fairly big deal around here."
"Why?"
"It's just the time."
"Yeah, but why?"
He shrugged, "It just is, isn't it?"
"Is anything just?"
"Yeah, sorta," he grinned a bit.
"Like what?"
"Like. Gender."
He rolled his eyes. "Yeah, I got that. What else?"
"Stars?"
"That I won't argue with." Something in a shop window caught his eye, and he pulled Rowan toward the door, pushing it open and dragging Rowan inside.
Rowan laughed, letting himself be pulled.
Inside he let Rowan go. It was a toy store, full of very basic old fashioned toys. He paid no attention at all to most of them, but back from the window and in a corner was a display of prisms and suncatchers. It took him about three seconds to be there, and working deftly and quickly to untangle them.
Rowan eyed the tinkertoys for a minute before following Brant, "What are you doin'?"
"I am looking at the colorful sparkly things. They remind me of the bar, only hopefully without the risk of giving me a hang-over."
"Why do they remind you of the bar? What bar?"
He passed one, all reds and blues and purples, to Rowan. "Have you seen the bar in the hotel?"
"Yeah, I went with Ja- oh yeah."
"You get it now? Who'd you go with?" He questioned, found another one for himself, mostly clear and lighter blue, and climbed up on a counter with a handy patch of sun to sit in.
"I do," Rowan played with the suncatcher, "With Jack."
He held his free hand out. "Come here and tell me about Jack. I think I ran into a friend of his earlier."
"What about him?"
"I don't know. What's he like?"
"Smart. Funny. Brave."
"He sounds like a really great guy. Do you know a guy who calls himself Doctor, too?"
"Yeah, actually," he frowned, "Why?"
"He's the one who mentioned Jack. Seems like you've got a friend in common."
"You talked to the Doctor?"
"I talked to someone who called himself the Doctor?"
"What did he look like?"
"Leather jacket, blue eyes, big ears, slightly crooked nose, short brown hair, about. " He squinted. "This tall and this wide." He gestured.
Rowan frowned, "That was the first."
"The first what?"
"My first Doctor."
"He was like your peditrican or something?"
"No, he just. Regenerates"
"Like grows a new tail?"
"Like replaces every cell in his body."
"That's got to be handy."
"Kinda scary too."
