"Well, where else could it have come from?"
"That's a damn good question," Jack was forced to concede. Then he grinned.
"What's so funny?"
"I'm laughing at myself."
"What, for asking a stupid question?"
"Yep," he agreed, still grinning, and took a drink of his water.
"Ah, well, happens to us all at times." He glanced at Jack curiously. "Does it help, knowing?"
He thought about it, really stopped and thought about it. "I don't know," he admitted. "Yes and no, I suppose. I'm glad it's not a question, anymore. I'm not happy with the answer."
"Why not?"

Someone desperate as the Master was to survive, no matter what, really wasn't going to get why immortality might not be seen as a good thing.
"Because if Time is what's keeping me alive, I'm going to be alive until Time itself dies."
"And that's a bad thing?" Yeah, he really didn't get it. "Jack, some men would give anything to live that long!"
"Yeah, well. If they figure out how to take it from me, they can have it. "
He grinned. "If only it were that easy." He shrugged slightly. "Maybe we'll figure out a way, one day."
"Who knows," he said, easily. He finished off his water. "I'm heading to bed, Harry. If you're around a while, feel free to look me - or one of me - up again. It's been interesting."
He couldn't disagree with that. "It certainly has, and I look forward to it. Oh, and if you bump into the Doctor again..."
He lifted his eyebrow, and pushed his glass away again, without looking away from the Master. "Yeah?"
The Master smirked. "Say hi from me."

He held out his hand. "Captain."
He took the Master's hand and shook. "Mister Saxon."
"See you around," he smiled. "One or other of you."
"You can count on it." He took his hand back, nodded again to the Master, and took one step straight away from him before he pivoted around and walked away, coat billowing behind him.
Oh, that really had been the most tremendous fun! The Master watched Jack go, then finished up his drink and set off into the night to find someone else to play with.
