Kurt frowned. "I remember the Doctor telling me about that. It has to be something to do with the Vortex. He - you - the older you I knew - he used to say I had them in me too. In my blood or something, along with the Vortex."

He shrugged, and sighed. "I'm sorry, Koschei. I'm flailing a bit here. I desperately want to help you and I don't know how."
"I don't think there's anything that can be done, is the thing," Koschei said, still staring up at the sky. "I'm going to have to live with them for however long they're there. I'm just..."

Koschei rolled over onto his side, tucking his knees in to his chest with a soft sigh, hugging them, "What happens when I can't fight it anymore? Anything? Will something that was just there before came to define me? Or if I stop fighting, will they stop pushing?"

It was easy enough to think out loud like this. Aall he had to do was mentally place himself somewhere else.

The only thing missing ever the insistent and eager reassurances that they would figure something out, and they would do it together, no matter how long it took.
Kurt frowned down at the little boy. "I'm out of my depth, here, Koschei," he admitted, rubbing the kid's shoulder, soothing contact being just about the only thing he could give. "I think I need to talk to the Doctor, see if there is anything we can do to help you - beyond just holding you back if you start to see red. If anyone can help you, it's him. He knows you a lot better than I do."

And wasn't that just ridiculously ironic, that he and the Doctor looked like playing foster parents to the baby Master while he was here?
That was just the thing, wasn't it? If there was something that could be done, that Doctor would have already done it. And Koschei highly doubted that he'd do anything that would mess so severely with pre-established timelines. But, still...

Koschei pushed himself back up to the sitting position, offering Kurt a thankful smile, "If you think that's the best course of action."
"I do. Just remember, he's a lot older here than the kid you're used to. Maybe he can do something now, while you're still young, before the drums have got too bad a hold? Or something."

He was clutching at straws, he really was, but it was the only thing he could think of.

He grinned at Koschei, and got up. "I'll see you again soon," he promised. "We're going to look after you, while you're here, Koschei. You come and find us if you need us."
Koschei grinned, nodding after Kurt, "It was nice to meet you," He said, bouncing to his feet. "I think I'm gonna go see if I can find some water. I've got rock skipping to perfect," He said, waving at Kurt before dashing off to what he could tell was the edge of the town.
