"...I've been stuck on earth. My entire life."
"You've got cabin fever?"
"...Sure," he sighed.
"No," he corrected, and apologized. "I wasn't trying to be dismissive. I understand. Believe me, I understand."
"So just. Have to wait."
"For his time line to catch up with yours, so you can get the hell out of dodge?"
"Something like that. Or Jack can."
"Why is it an either or thing?"
"...Complicated," Jamie said with a shrug, "If Jack goes though, Jack'll come back with a ship."
"Why is it complicated?"
"So, Tosh and Gwen, are here, huh?"
"Why is it complicated?"
"Because he's the last."
"So?"
"And I don't know how he's going to take me."
"What's that got to do with Jack's presence?"
"Jack loves him."
"Yeah. And presumably he loves you."
"Yep."
"So where's the complication?"
"It just is!" he flailed slightly.
"Tell me."
"I don't know how to explain."
"Try."
"Why?"
"Because I like you and I'm interested. Also, I'm bored."
That made him grin and feel warm inside. His father liked him. Without, you know, having raised him and sort of having to. He looked giddy stupid for a minute.
He cocked his head to the side. "You're kind of cute when you're happy. Why is it compli-" He stopped. "How do you feel about the Doctor?"
"I don't know him. At all.'
"How do you feel about what you've heard?"
He shrugged, "I have daddy issues."
"What kind of daddy issues?"
"I've never met him."
"What do you think of what you know," he repeated. And settled in to keep repeating.
"He's an asshole. He's a lot like me. He's brave and he's stupid and he's brilliant."
"How do you feel about Jack loving him?"
"Sad for him."
"Why?"
"Because..' Jamie made a frustrated sound then sighed, "The Doctor's never going to love him back."
"I think he probably knows that," Jack said, with a very faint smile.
"That's sad."
"Why?"
"To love without being loved back?"
"If you're loving someone with the expectation of getting something - even love - back, you're probably missing a lot of the point."
"Probably. But I can want it for him."
"He probably wants it for him, too, but I'm betting he'll be just fine without it, and I doubt he's missing out on much."
"Personal experience?"
"Yeah."
"Sorry." Jamie said softly.
He made an indecisive sound. "Shit happens. Life goes on. And on. And on." He grinned, brightly. "I'm just fine. Save the sorry for someone who really needs it."
"Do you like it here?" Jamie asked suddenly.
"Yeah," he answered, like it wasn't sudden. "I really do."
"Why?"
"It's kind of nice. No pressure, the world's not ending while we're here. Good company, great food."

And he was always stuck, anyway. With time not passing outside this place, and people he knew and cared about here, what difference did it make, anyway?
"Kind of like a vacation?"
"A lot like vacation. A whole lot."
"Maybe completely?"
"Eh, almost. I wouldn't take some of these people on a cruise with me."
"Wankers?"
"Dangerous. Be careful."
"What? Why? Besides that Master fellow."
"There's an Ianto around that's pretty scary, too."
"...Ianto Jones?"
"Yeah."
"How?"
"Just. Disturbing and dangerous. " he was not telling the kid he was into killing his daddy.
"I'll keep away from all Ianto Joneses," he agreed, "Girlfriend thing?"
"What?" he asked, blankly.
"Is he scary because of Lisa?"
"No, the cyberwoman in the basement was way less scary than this."
"That's pretty scary."
"Just be careful. "
"I'm always careful," he said with a lazy grin.
"No you're not."
"...Well, no."
