She had thought that over the years she'd become more than prepared to meet herself, but here it had just been strange, especially considering she probably hadn't even scratched the surface of how many other Doctors there were here.

And Masters, those too...

After having met that particular Master, who was so like hers and yet so different, she felt a good stiff drink was in order.

This place was at least good for what you needed, so she found her way to the hotel bar quite quickly, and wasted no time in taking a seat and ordering herself a drink.

Now, if this place would just give her a moment to catch her breath...

She closed her eyes, cursing herself for thinking it. Of course, sod's law states...

She opened one eye a crack and peered to the side.
He'd been avoiding people for a few days after running into the Master, and talking, however briefly, with the alternate version of himself. The shop he'd found had a good selection of instruments, and he'd walked out with a small collection of drums, anticipating a nice calming session with figuring out how they sounded. Except that it wasn't working, not here.

Which was how he'd found himself down here, with a glass of brandy, and an eye out for someone interesting. Who had just sat down beside him, if he wasn't mistaken. A Time Lord, but not one he recognized.

"Hello," he said, smiling charmingly when she opened one eye to look at him. "I'm the Doctor, and you are?"
She opened her eyes fully and looked at him.

"Not again." she almost groaned.

Looking him up and down, she raised an eyebrow "Now there's a regeneration I don't recognise... which are you on?"

There was an ever so slightly hopeful tone to her voice, if he was the next regeneration along, it meant this gender change was only temporary, which would be a good thing.
"Eleventh." The Doctor raised an eyebrow. "You?" He really, really hoped it wasn't one after him. Though at least one regeneration was ginger.
She sighed deeply "Same." she answered grumpily.

It wasn't just that her hope had been...delayed, really, because it could still be temporary, it was more annoying that this version of her was still, well, him.

"I take it the whole female thing is new?" The Doctor relaxed a little. "What happened?"
"There was an..incident in a laboratory, the chemicals involved screwed with the regeneration somehow... there wasn't really much of it left to investigate, and I found myself here before I really had a chance." she explained "So you're probably safe from it.." she sighed.
The Doctor nodded. "I hope so. I happen to like this body." He took a sip of his brandy. "Out of curiosity, you haven't run into the Master in your universe since he died, have you?"
Something about his tone caught her attention and she frowned. "No... why, have you?"

Was it possible that he wasn't really dead? She wouldn't put it past him, after all...
The Doctor smiled wryly. "No. Mostly because I'd rather not meet him." He rolled the glass in his hand back and forth a moment meditatively. "He's here, though, so staying away from him for too long is rather more difficult than usual."
She nodded slightly, trying not to look disappointed. Of course life would be much easier without having to chase him halfway across the universe and keep him out of trouble, but being reminded so harshly that she was the only one left, it caused new loneliness...

Well, when she wasn't here, anyway.

"I've run into him, well, one of him." she said with a slight nod "He was...very different, actually."
"So I've heard." The Doctor turned on his stool, leaning one elbow on the bar. "Just be careful if you run into him. He's not as predictable as he was in his last regeneration."
She couldn't stop her eyes from widening, but she looked down at her glass quickly to hide it. When he said the Master was here, he meant... so he really wasn't dead... well, she reasoned mentally, she didn't know all the details. The point was there was a Master after hers running around.

"I will." she said quietly.
He noticed her eyes widening, and he reached out to touch her shoulder gently. He hadn't meant to surprise her - well, technically, he knew the chance of that was rather high, but he hadn't meant for her to be surprised.

"The drums are quieter, and he's saner. Thinks his actions through more. Plans better. That's what I meant by less predictable." A smile twitched the corner of his mouth up. "A bit more like Koschei, this time."
She looked up after a moment, smiling gratefully at him.

She'd never realised, until meeting herself so much, just how tactile she really was.

Maybe it was part of being the same person, but every 'version' she'd come across here seemed to take comfort in touch, and she'd noticed she did as well.

"Well that's...sort of good..." she said slowly, a faint smile gracing her lips as well. As long as he didn't apply that shiny new sanity to new and better ways of making trouble, that was...
The Doctor chuckled. "So long as he keeps occupied and out of trouble, at least." He rubbed her shoulder a moment, soothingly. "He's the one with greying hair and a fondness for cappaccino, so you know."
She nodded slightly, smiling a little "So if I see a cappuccino drinking time lord, it's best to approach with caution, if at all?" she asked, amused.
The Doctor nodded, keeping a straight face for a moment before grinning. "He's probably off sulking somewhere at the moment, actually. Apparently, he got snatched away from yet another plan to take over the universe."
She smirked slightly "Awww, what a pity for him." she said in mock sympathy, keeping a straight face for mere moments before laughing.
The Doctor raised his glass in mock-salute, before setting it back on the bar, tilting his head. "So, which of the various versions of the Master did you run into?"
"Here?" she clarified, pausing slightly to consider how best to explain him. "He was the same regeneration as my version, the 'Harold Saxon' one, but he'd been with his Doctor for the end of the war, been travelling with him all this time I think."
